The literal translation of the term cabaña is cabin. Often built originally as a shepherd´s hut, there are many cabañas tucked away in rural Asturias and being used as rural retreats. They can be a very economical and environmentally friendly way to enjoy the wonders of nature in Asturias. A lovely example of a stone-built cabaña in Piloña Cabañas can be 'de madera,' i.e. a log cabin or 'de piedra,' stone-built. They can also vary greatly in terms of both accessibility and the number of mod-cons that are available. It all depends on your tastes and just how far away from it all you´d like to get! Many cabañas have their own independent water supply although most are on mains electricity. Their location in the heart of nature makes them ideally suited to environmentally low-impact and sustainable approaches to living. |
