SANTANDER is the capital of Cantabria and an important working port. Away from the docks the city has a more refined face to it. Sardinero, for example, has been an upper-class holiday resort since the mid-19th century and today has a feel very similar to Biarritz.

As you might expect from a solidly prosperous place the cultural life of Santander is very rich. There is a year-round programme of concerts and plays.

In terms of tourism, the main attractions of Cantabria are the magnificent Picos de Europa mountains and the beautiful Cantabrian coast.
