With a programme of events running from Wednesday 9th July to Monday 14th July and lots of live music, free cider & food and workshops and activities for kids and adults alike the Festival de la Sidra Natural de Nava had something to offer everyone. Saturday night was one of the main events, with the prizes for the best cider manufactured in Asturias and Nava being awarded, and 5,000 litres of free cider being given away to all those attending! Music was provided by a number of different groups - our personal favourites were the drumming troupe, a wonderfully energetic young band from South America. Sunday saw the cider pouring competition - a very serious business indeed. Each escanciador (cider pourer) had to pour 5 culins (measures of cider). He or she was then given points in different categories: style, taste of the poured cider, accuracy of measure (each culin was measured into a test tube contraption) and time taken to pour all 5. Last year's winner retained his title, and, the serious stuff out of the way, the audience got on with the business of eating and drinking and soaking up the sunshine.
